FAQs

We are proud of our Custom Fitting Philosophy and Performance Fitting™ approach and want every golfer to fully understand its benefits.

  • What is the Performance Fitting™ approach?

Our approach is a Performance Fitting™ approach, which removes all the negative influences associated with most fittings, such as stock in the back, sales commissions, brand incentives, and higher profit margins on certain brands. This means we can focus completely on guiding you to the best results.

We look at every aspect, considering both static and dynamic performance. More importantly, we are trained to consider your potential and likely progress. Our advice is built around your goals so that the equipment complements your objectives and will last a long time, ensuring any investment you make is one that endures and supports your expected progress.

In short, our focus is 100% on guiding you to play your best.

  • Do I have to be swinging well before I get fitted?

Great question and one I can empathise with. Surely if your swing changes your equipment will not be perfect anymore, right?

    Consider the below….

Who swings perfectly every time? If you asked the best player in the world how many times they swings perfectly it would be a low percentage. For them the important element is the knowledge that the clubs will match their ‘A’ swing but also give that player some tolerance when the ‘B’ and ‘C’ swings appear (which might be a much higher % of time)!

Fitting equipment is about the bad shots as much as the good shots – I’ll often ask my clients to makes sure they hit plenty of bad shots during a session! It’s a bit of an ice breaker and takes some of the pressure off being watched but its an absolute must for me to understand where the bad shots come from and factor that into the assessment and the advice given.

Coaches 'Coach' – The default for a professional is to fix a shot by making swing changes and very often this will be done without checking the equipment first. If a coach wants for example to encourage a more in to out swing path he’s going to have a tough time if the iron sits too upright! Equipment fitting should work in tandem with working on the swing. We will often consult with a player’s coach before making certain decisions – this is so we build clubs that work in harmony with swing changes and do not hinder progress.

Clubs can be adjusted as you progress. Its unlikely for a club golfer to require a different shaft after a fitting with us even if their swing changes because we will have assessed current form, physicality, what they are working on and likely progress. The most likely amends if any required may well be loft and lie which can be adjusted. If we think a players progress is likely to be rapid we will often look at models which have appropriate adjustment options so they can effectively ‘grow’ with the player and offer some longevity to the equipment.

Note – this is a different story with an up coming junior golfer where we often make a recommendation for ‘now’ and a review session in the future with a view to re-shafting for flex, weight, length and material. This can be a more cost effective method longer term and ensures their progress is maximised through constant monitoring of their game. Better decisions are made which prevents wasting money on equipment that promises everything but does not deliver for that player.

  • Will I benefit from a fitting?

Working out clubs to suit you so you can enjoy your golf and unwind is exactly what we are all about.

The whole point of our service is to get you playing the best golf possible and enjoying the results.  We have set our model up to charge for our time so there is no pressure to make sales and we can concentrate on getting you exactly what you need.

That plus 25+ years experience specialising in equipment fitting is why you will benefit from seeing us. You will love the experience and learn so much as well.

By getting the clubs right (both for now and the future) you will eliminate any reason why consistency and perforamnce issues are down to your equipment and you can concentrate on the other areas that will help you hit better shots more of the time.

The other benefit as well is that you will love your clubs and get huge pleasure from having them in the bag and every time you pull one of them out.

It will be money and time really well spent.

Please read our testimonals, as our clients tend to agree!

  • Why do you charge for a fitting session?

This is a perfectly reasonable question to ask.

In short, our focus is 100% on guiding you to play your best. While the sale of golf clubs is often part of the process, it's not our drive or focus. We charge for our time to ensure that all conflicts of interest are removed.

  • What is the cost of custom fitted clubs?

This is a tricky one to answer as you are unique and your specification will dictate the price which can be vary considerably.

However I hope the guide below is helpful. You can get as many or as few clubs as you wish and we will keep your club specs on file so you add at them at any point after the Performance Fitting session.

If you went down a new club route the prices of the brands we work with range (approximately) as follows.

The average number is indicative of the most common price points we have had over the last year for each category (we do carry top end models such as PXG and Miura which is why the top end price is so high but focus on the average prices for this purpose.

    • Drivers - £399 to £799 - average £499
    • Fairways - £249 to £599 - average £289
    • Hybrids - £179 to £499 - average £269

    • Specialist wedges - £149 to £450 - average - £169
    • Putters - £199 to £799 - average £349

A guide example for a full 14 club set could be as follows (the mix of clubs could be very different for you):

I hope that helps, please do get in contact with us if you have any further questions.

  • Do I get the session fee refunded if I purchase clubs?

Our session fee is not refundable against any purchase.

We set up this way so there is no bias towards trying to sell you clubs - only performance based advice that will help your golf which could indeed simply be confirming what you have is all good or things like club amends if relevant.

If sales of clubs are then pursued and you decide to go through us we ensure that every club is checked fully (or built by ourselves) to ensure you get exactly what you are fit for (which is too often not the case - around 40% of ordered clubs come through outside of the tolerances we expect).

  • What if I am left-handed?

I take a slightly different approach with our left handed players by breaking the fitting into 2 sessions.

It's the same amount of time but because we don't have quite as comprehensive a range in left handed demo clubs, we use the first session to get all the most important information and performance data.

We then go away and build clubs in the best models for you to your spec ready to test in the second session and make final decisions.

  • Do you offer Custom Fitting Training Courses?

Yes! I, Rhys Atkinson, offer both online and in-person training courses for those looking to master the art of Custom Club Fitting.
